My Kind of Blogs

So as I was browsing blogs to link up to my blog I wasn't sure what I was looking for at first. But as I saw more and more blogs of all sorts I realized that I'm drawn to blogs that have a finished look and seem to invite the reader. Each one was of course aesthetically pleasing to my eye and made me want to explore more! To sum it up, I feel as though the blogs I chose were unique for different reasons and grasped me at first glance.

Pink Wallpaper is probably my favorite blog. It's ironic because I am not a fan of pink at all, but the content is very inspiring and has me interested in what the next topic may be. I think that that is the purpose of a blog and that's why this one is my favorite!

Points & Lines

POINTS

1. The cane-back chair has several points on it and these points
2. The implied point in this light fixture provides a sense of depth.
3. The candle holder has three points and depth is clear here.

1. The points in a stoplight are to draw the viewers attention.
2. The street light has the vertical line that draws the eye to the point.

LINES

Vertical Lines
1. The vertical lines in the rocking chair represent a sense of power.
2. The vertical lines in the trees show movement, the eye is drawn to the tree tops.
3. The vertical lines in the building show both power and movement.

Horizontal Lines

1. The shutter lines create a calming feeling.
2. the siding is both calming and stable.
3. The wood floor is clearly placed horizontally to provide a calming effect.

Diagonal Lines

1. You can always fine a dynamic diagonal line near a stair case.
2. The crossed diagonal lines show a dynamic edge to a simple mirror.
3. The diagonal lines here give a definite dynamic support for items.

Curved/Organic Lines

1. The wrought iron curved lines absolutely show movement.
2. The extremely organic lines on the pillow show a unique movement.
3. The curved lines on the wine rack have the eye going up and down with movement

Structural Lines

1. This bar stool serves to support individuals - it has a function.

Identifying my style

It's hard for me to identify or describe my style because who I am is made up of so many different elements, each different from the next. I imagine you will better understand as I list a few out for you.

Color Palette
I chose this color palette because:

  • The seafoam green represents my calm and patient personality.
  • The strawberry represents my outgoing personality and constant optimism.
  • The espresso brown represents my warm nature - I love to nurture others.

Fashion

Some examples of my kind of fashion. But it is first important to know that no matter what I am wearing - active wear, casual wear, dress wear - I will have my Michael Kors watch and Hamilton tote at all times!

Movies

Ideally I would like to describe my life as a romance - What girl wouldn't like her life to be like The Notebook? But truly, a drama or comedy would describe me better. Don't laugh, but Marley and Me would be a movie to compare me to. (1) Because I love Jennifer Anniston and (2) right now my boyfriend and I share an adorable bulldog that often gives us trouble but regardless, we always adore him.

Who wouldn't love all those wrinkles?

Our English Bulldog, Atom Bomb

Isn't she gorgeous?
 Travel

I haven't really traveled at all - YET! Growing up, my mom was terrified of flying so we only did it once. We flew to Colorado to visit my aunt & uncle. Even though I have not traveled much, I have a desire to explore new places. Because of my limited travel, I have no specific places I hope visit, as long as it's new to me. And I love the beach, so somewhere tropical would be a start.

St. Lucia

I have Irish ancestors. I'd love to see the country!

Interior Design

I have a love for residential design. My mom has always loved antiques and growing up I hated them. Now that I am older, I have learned to appreciate them but to an extent. I like to mix old, shabby and distressed items to new, crisp items.

Here, I love the shabby cabinets against the shiny stainless steel appliances.

The mantle is so cool. The room is rustic yet clean.

Obsessed with this bedroom but I would add a pop of color. Maybe yellow or a bright green.
Reality Television

My oh my do I love reality television but not The Kardashians (not even sure how to spell it). I love Dance Moms. Mainly because I grew up dancing and competing but we were not that strict. But believe me, that is not the only studio like that!

In addition to Dance Moms, the other reality TV show I like is Project Runway. No, I do not make clothes and I hardly know how to sew, but I secretly love it and would love to be able to!

Tim Gun is my favorite!

Fabric/Pattern

I love linen. I think it is so chic and comfortable. If I had to choose one fabric to have for the rest of my life, it would be linen. Even though I would be cold in the winter...

Music

This is probably the hardest element for me to show my style because I love several types of music. I suppose if someone was making a documentary about me the song would have to be Journey's " Don't Stop Believing", mostly because of the optimism - not to mention it is a blast to sing!

___________________________________________________________________________

As I review this post I am delighted at what represents me. I am happily surprised at what my style looks like on paper (or the web)!

What design is to me

This video explains what design is to me. The video clearly explains that for me design is anything that makes me feel comfortable and is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I chose the images in this video because (1) I personally chose these items to put in my home and (2) each one makes me feels comfortable in some way. Everyone has their own idea of design, comfort, and style and for me, each affects the other.
